Whether you need to have fun, relax, get away, get together, or get exercise, Gilmer County is a great place for family fun. In addition to the more hearty, adventurous opportunities for recreation, we also offer laid-back locations, like a nine-hole golf course, shaded getaways, and sunny lakes. In addition, cultural and athletic events at Glenville State College are always open to the public.
Swimming, golfing, fishing, boating – a shaded picnic, reunion, or game of miniature golf, tennis or softball – Gilmer is a treasure of outdoor fun! With two outdoor swimming pools and camp sites all over the county, Gilmer is an affordable getaway.

 Swim & Splash

Gilmer County abounds with water, flowing, still and perfect for swimming! Enjoy two outdoor pools, paddleboats and canoes, or bring your own boat to our stream access sites.

Cedar Creek Park Pool Cedar Creek Swimming Pool – The swimming pool at Cedar Creek State Park is open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, 11 am to 6:45 pm. The pool includes a baby pool as well, and is located near shaded picnic pavilions.
City Pool
Gilmer County Park Pool -The huge U-shaped pool at the Gilmer County Recreation Center is open from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. They offer memberships, regular daily rates and pool parties. Reduced prices are available for senior citizens and campers at the recreation center.
Paddleboating Paddleboats – Paddleboats can be rented for a leisurely trek around the largest of Cedar Creek State Park’s ponds. Perfect for a relaxing day of exercise in the sun that still provides an aerobic workout. Each boat seats four.

Public Stream Access Sites – Gilmer County is home to five public fishing and boating stream access sites along the Little Kanawha River. In addition, trails along Cedar Creek and park ponds provide excellent spots for fishing.
     Golf & Mini Golf

Gilmer County offers golfing opportunities for both the serious golfer and for family fun. Both courses are near other attractions and pavilions, pools, playgrounds and camping!

The mountains and the green Glenville Golf Club -Glenville Golf Club features a 9-hole Bent grass course with water in play. Built on flat terrain, ponds come into play on three holes. The greens are guarded by at least one sand bunker. The signature hole is #6, a 464-yard, par 5, requiring an approach shot over water to a small green. Special rates are available for patrons of the neighboring recreation center for day or weekend packages.    
The sign to miniature golf, pavillions, pool, and country store.   Cedar Creek Miniature Golf – Cedar Creek’s miniature golf course is centrally located in the park where tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, croquet, and a softball field are also available.


Gather & Meet

Gilmer County is filled with meeting, picnic and gathering places! Perfect for family reunions, conferences, weddings and seminars, our pavilions and meeting rooms are available at rates to fit any budget.

This shelter is close to the Athletic Fields and swimming pool! Cedar Creek State Park – There are several picnic sites and three shelters throughout Cedar Creek State Park. If not reserved, the shelters are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The Park Activity Building is great for family reunions! Call 304-462-7158 for rental rates.
The Agriculture Building Gilmer County Recreation ParkThe Recreation Park has a huge new agricultural multi-purpose facility available for almost any activity; basketball, volleyball, roller skating, farm shows, gun shows, and flea markets just to name a few. The Dining Hall can accommodate up to 300 people for banquets, reunions, or conventions.
